The World Outside

House of Heart

I glance at the clock once again. Has even a minute passed since I last checked? A spider makes its way down the lamp shade, drops into a half empty glass of bourbon, fighting for life while I question its existence. Unable to endure my solitude I slip into my robe and open the sheers at the window. Quietly I step into the cold night, my spectral form eludes shadowy figures pressed against drab walls. Unnoticed, I surrender to the static of a different world, as though my own never existed. Unfazed by time, long ago lovers pass by. At last the sun casts a glow through the fog and another night folds into yesterday.
