CHRISTian poetry ~ by deborah ann

In the crevices of my faith,
on the Rock where it grows
the weed of self-sufficiency
sometimes begins to show.
I try to jerk it out,
so I tug and tug and tug
but, its pure stubbornness
won’t even start to budge.
Its roots are so embedded
in all the mire and muck
where my self-reliance
always seems to get stuck.
I try to yank it out,
so I pull and pull and pull
but, its strong resistance
makes me feel like a fool.
For the only way to rid myself,
of this noxious weed . . .
is for me to confess to God
my sin of pride and greed!
~~~~~~~~
Hearken to me, ye that follow
after righteousness, ye that seek
the Lord: look unto the rock
whence ye are hewn, and to the
hole of the pit whence ye are digged.
