My lovely Grandma Dolly who lived to the ripe old age of ninety nine was a wise soul. I remember when I was struggling a bit during my twenties that she wrote me a letter in which she included a quote about looking out of the window and appreciating the brand new day (and blank canvas) ahead. I could really relate to this simple and yet profound saying and on re-reading the following poem I can’t help but think that Grandma’s wisdom was creeping in here!
Taking Heart
Taking heart is hard to do
When things don’t go your way
Yet often we owe our growth to
The tough and testing days
The rough and smooth, the win and lose
They give us depth and meaning
Today will be yesterday’s news
Self-pity is demeaning
We must start every day anew
Keep Woe-is-Me at bay
Taking heart is good for you
