The April poetry month is coming to an end soon and today we are to write a meta-poem about poetry itself! Giving myself permission to write has been life changing. It allows me to flow with my emotional experiences, to share them in my own time and in my own way and then to move on from them. I am not bothered about my poems being perfect, published or literary masterpieces. This is about letting it all out! If you are curious about writing poetry – give it a whirl. It might well surprise you how much you enjoy it!

They really don’t have to sound clever

And there’s nothing wrong with a rhyme

For writing them brings me true pleasure

I lose any notion of time

They don’t need a form that’s impressive

Though at times even I try my hand

What matters is that they’re expressive
