Guiding Scars

Peacock Poetry

Today’s challenge is to write a poem that resists closure by ending on a question, inviting the reader to continue the process of reading (and, in some ways, writing) the poem even after the poem ends. Inspired by seeing my silhouette in the featured image, I have chosen to write about what is in our shadow.

We can waste a lot of time masking our insecurities and baggage in order to appear composed and collected. Silly really as it we are all just trying to get through this thing called life the best way we can and it is the sharing of our struggles that brings solidarity. Dwelling on past hurt does not help us but acknowledging and accepting our damaged parts can help us to grow and help others.

Shadow Story

What is in your shadow?

Within your silhouette?

What’s the dark inside of you

that you’d rather forget?
